    Chilkoot Trail
The Chilkoot Trail is famous for being the route travelers used to make their way to the Klondike Gold Rush in Canada's Yukon. Gold was discovered in 1896 on Bonanza Creek located 17.7 km (11 mi) from Dawson City, YT. People from various destinations made the trek to find gold through a popular route that went over Chilkoot Pass from Alaska through British Columbia and into the Yukon.

Today, many enjoy hiking the Chilkoot Trail. Hikers should note that this trail is strenuous and physically challenging, however, many have found the hike to be very rewarding. This trail is not meant for everyone especially children. The terrain is rough and extreme weather conditions are experienced. Only those who are in good physical condition and who are experienced in hiking and backpacking should attempt the hike. The trail from Dyea, Alaska to Bennett, British Columbia is the only part that is maintained and is about 53 km (33 mi) in length. Since the trail straddles the U.S.- Canadian border at the northern end of the Alaskan panhandle, hikers can access the trail from either Bennett or Dyea.
