Once part of the Environmental Science Program at Sheldon Jackson College, the hatchery raises and releases four species of Pacific salmon. The complex also features and aquarium of area marine life, including touch tanks. The hatchery and aquarium are situated on the college grounds, close to the Indian River estuary and an easy walk from downtown Sitka. Open daily during summer.

Fortress of the Bear

The Fortress of the Bear is a three-quarter-acre habitat for orphaned brown bears. Open daily from 9am to 6pm May to September, and Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm during winter, the fortress features covered viewing areas and a petting farm.

The Alaska Raptor Center is a non-profit corporation established to protect and rehabilitate injured bald eagles and other Alaskan birds, conduct research and educate the public about these magnificent birds. Some injured birds that are unable to survive in the wild now call the center home and provide valuable educational opportunities and entertainment to visitors. The center is situated on 17 acres (6.9 ha) bordering the Tongass National Forest.
