    Missouri River

    The Missouri River drains one-sixth of the United States and encompasses nearly 530,000 square miles. In Montana, the river begins near Three Forks and is formed by the convergence of three other rivers, the Gallatin, Jefferson and Madison. After travelling over 700 miles across Montana, the Missouri continues east into North Dakota, south into South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa and ends up in Missouri when it connects with the Mississippi River.

    Covering over two million acres (9,000 sq km) of the Tongass National Forest, the Misty Fjords National Monument is a rich coastal ecosystem composed of fjords, glaciers, granite cliffs, natural canals, marine life, wildlife and bird species.
